Homemade Vapor Rub Recipe, All Natural!

The few times I have made this recipe, I have been reminded of how much I love it because it really does the trick. I grew up using Vick’s Vapor Rub as probably most people did, but then as my knowledge grew I realized most manufactured “name brand” products have unhealthy ingredients. So why not skip the Petroleum and make your own!

A Note About Essential Oils Safety…

As a warning, this recipe does contain essential oils so check with your doctor if you want to use it on a baby. There is still controversy, it seems, when it comes to the safety of using some essential oils on small children. In saying that, I have used it on my children but I waited until they were at least 1 years old.

There is something so soothing and relaxing about nature’s most potent oils. They smell of medicinal properties and really help to clear out your chest and nasal passage when inhaled. Use this recipe like you would use any vapor rub. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1/4 Cup of Olive Oil

1/2 Cup of Extra Virgin, Cold Pressed Coconut Oil

1/4 Cup of Grated Beeswax

10-20 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil

10 -20 Drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil

*I tend to make 2 batches, one for my kids and one for adults. I use the 10 drops for the kiddie version.

Directions:

1. In double boiler add oils and grated beeswax. If you do not have a double boiler, just put a big glass bowl over top of a pot with a few inches of boiling water.

2. Once all ingredients are melted and mixed together, let it cool slightly before adding essential oils.

3. Pour, while still warm, into small glass canning jar or storage tin. Let cool and store.

*It is good practice to have a few product tins on hand so that you can easily pack your products on the go.

Warmly,

Rachel
