It isn’t too often that people stop and think about their household products. I mean, why would they? We, as a society, are so accustomed to trusting what is on our grocery shelves, or what our parents used that we are almost on auto pilot when it comes to purchasing these items. But are they safe? This is a good question.
Chemicals….Are They healthy?
I don’t know how you feel but the term “chemicals” makes me squirmy and uncomfortable. Especially when it comes to the thought of putting them on my babies new skin or my little girl’s sensitive areas. When was the last time you read the label on your baby lotion or your laundry soap? The amount of ingredients can be both intimidating and appalling.
Watch Your Product Labels…
In relatively recent news a chemical known as Parabens (butylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben are the most common ones) have been linked to breast cancer in woman. These chemicals have been being used in our products since the 1950’s! Traditionally, Parabens have been added to approximately 90% of our cosmetics. This includes shampoo, lotions, make-up, scrubs and more. These chemicals are used as a preservative that aid in the prevention of bacteria growth. However, due to consumer concerns, it is becoming more and more common to see “paraben free” on the label of our beauty products.
The Answer? DIY!!!
Did you know that actually, it IS SIMPLE to make your own products? AND, it takes very little time since most products only contain 3 or 4 ingredients! Are they effective? YES, and cost effective.
